From sketch book ideas to food porn, there's a lot more to creating recipes and inspiring food photos than meets the eye. Especially when those recipes are plant-based, gluten-free, vegan versions of the foods we love.
And that's what we do for Morinaga's tofu brands, Mori-Nu Silken Tofu and Mori-Nu Plus. It starts with ideas...dreams, really. And a whole bunch of "what ifs."
"What if we could make a cheese sauce from tofu that really tastes like cheese?" Not those vegan cheeses at the market that never come close. But melty, rich "cheese" that would fool any flag-waving, American Mac & Cheese lover. No dairy. No gluten. And can we make other recipes for dishes we normally think of as indulgent, or even sinful. Maple Pecan Glazed Donuts? Jalapeño "Cheese" Dip? Chocolate Silk Pie? Can we do it?
With enough ingredients research, cooking experiments and a Secret Weapon*, the answer is yes, it is absolutely possible.
We have to. It's our job. And after we make it taste at least as good as the "real" thing, we have to make it look BETTER than the "real" thing. That's our job, too. And we think we do it pretty well. (But YOU will have to make the recipes to know for sure!)
It takes a lot of work. A LOT. Because looking good isn't enough. If that's all we had to do, well, we have Lightroom and Photoshop pros to do that. But we have a tougher task. The recipe has to be PERFECT, as well as delicious. We can't fake it. It's our client's reputation that's at stake.
So, do the recipes work? Are they perfect? Head over to Mori-Nu Plus's recipe page and try one for yourself. You'll be surprised how good tofu-based, gluten-free and vegan versions of your favorites can be.
